Coming from Bonnevaux, in the Viennese Lower Dauphiné, twelve monks of the Order of Cîteaux settled in 1137 in Léoncel, in a valley of the western Vercors, near the borders of the bishoprics of Die and Valence.
At the foot of steep, wooded slopes, near a large spring and at the end of a small high-altitude plain, whose marshes give rise to the Léoncel stream, the Cistercians created a platform on which they built their monastery....
