Description

Starting from the village, this small, very accessible loop allows you to discover the landscapes of the Vassieux plateau.

This route invites you to reflect on the traces of the battles of July 1944. Heading towards the Col de la Chau, you can, in about twenty minutes, climb to the resistance memorial, or visit the museum in the village.

You will pass by the necropolis of the events, reading along the way quotes from Jean Prévost, writer and journalist, leader of the maquis.

Back in the village, you will see on the right the only houses that escaped destruction at the time.

Step-by-step itinerary

Facing the town hall of Vassieux-en-Vercors (alt. 1050m) , follow the sign for Les Bourgets on the left.

Stay on the road until the fork at the Les Bourgets crossroads (alt. 1048m).

Then turn left and continue along the track to reach La Frache (alt. 1041m) . Continue towards the Château.

At the La Mare intersection (alt. 1058m) , take the road on the left to quickly reach the two successive intersections of the Château (alt. 1053m).

At the second junction, turn left onto a pleasant track with a view of the chapel of La Mure, and continue to the Les Chèvres crossroads (1065m altitude) . Admire the remains of very old windmills, perhaps the only ones ever built in the Vercors.

Take the track to the left again, joining La Grande Peyrouse (alt. 1053m) , and continue to the next crossroads. Then turn right. Emerge onto the departmental road at the Pourlette crossroads (alt. 1040m).

Turn left onto the road and walk along the verge to reach the village.
