Take the stairs next to the Tourist Office in La Chapelle-en-Vercors (alt. 885m) following the yellow and red markings of the GRP. Go behind the church and take the avenue des Bruyères to reach, after the cemetery, the Les Bruyères crossroads (alt. 908m).

Continue straight on the road, now following the yellow and green markings and cross the hamlet of Jallifiers.

A little after the houses, turn onto the first dirt road that goes off to the right. Follow it to a fork. Turn left onto a small path that climbs a hill and offers lovely views of the village of La Chapelle-en-Vercors. After a short climb, the path descends again and reaches another fork.

Take the right-hand path down the stony slope (which can be slippery when wet). The path soon levels out as you approach a junction. Turn right onto a pleasant trail, whose soft, sandy soil contrasts sharply with the hard stones of the previous descent. The path emerges in the middle of the meadows at Lauzet (885m altitude).

Find the yellow and red GRP markers. Turn right towards Les Chaberts (alt. 877m) . Now follow the tarmac road back to La Chapelle-en-Vercors.

At Sous le Château (883m) , before a hairpin bend, look out for the shortcut that bypasses the main route and takes you directly to the Château ( 900m) . You can admire the village of La Chapelle-en-Vercors from the Château's viewpoint: take a short, rather steep path to the left that winds through the rocks and leads to the site of the old castle. Return to the main route via the same path. Continue to the village center.
