Description

Overlooking the Isère valley, under the foothills of the Vercors massif, the Couvent des Carmes and the remains of the 14th century Dauphin's palace form a heritage site classified as a Historic Monument.

Beautifully restored in 2009, the site houses a heritage exhibition on the history of the Dauphins and the Carmelites. You will discover the astonishing collection of César Filhol, initiator of the classification of the remains as Historic Monuments in 1922, including many objects bearing witness to life in the 19th century.

The Carmelite Convent also houses temporary exhibition spaces and the permanent exhibition dedicated to the work of the Dutch painter Bob Ten Hoope.

The unique atmosphere of the Couvent des Carmes continues outside with its light-filled courtyard, its medieval-inspired garden and its conservatory orchard with 300 rare and ancient fruit trees.

A cultural program (entertainment, concerts, shows, etc.) is offered throughout the season, particularly during major national events such as Museums in Celebration, Night of Museums, Rendez-vous aux jardins and European Heritage Days.
