The cottage under the roof

This is a true haven for outdoor enthusiasts in all four seasons. Unique, charming, and perfectly located in the heart of the Vercors mountains, it also benefits from the various amenities offered by Saint Martin en Vercors.

Welcome to "Under the Roofs", our unusual gîte in St Martin en Vercors.

Ideally located, you'll appreciate both the tranquility of this accommodation, nestled amidst meadows, and the convenience of its immediate proximity to the village, just 300 meters away. The village offers a range of services (bakery, grocery stores, gas station, bar, restaurants, etc.) and local produce (cheeses, soaps, mushrooms, honey, vegetables, plants). Saint-Martin is also a strategic and central location for exploring the Vercors region from every angle. At the gateway to the Vercors High Plateaus National Nature Reserve, nestled in an open valley, suspended between the Bourne Gorges and the Grands Goulets, the Vercors and its roads lead you to the Diois region and the Drôme Valley, the Grenoble area, passing through Autrans, Villard-de-Lans and the Quatre Montagnes, or even the Royans.

Our gîte is a self-contained studio on the 2nd floor, recently converted from the attic of the stone building where we live year-round in the lower half. The shared central staircase leads to the gîte and the cellar, which can be used to store ski equipment and bicycles, for example.

A warm and comfortable space, the cottage accommodates 4 to 6 people with a flexible layout thanks to various sleeping arrangements and different areas located on or under the mezzanines. Ideal for a family or group of friends, it comprises a main living area and two partitioned mezzanine "mountain corners," offering relaxing spaces. Separated by a partition, each has a door and is accessed by two wooden staircases (a bit steep, so be careful) from the main area. A third space under the beams can be instantly converted into a sleeping area as needed. The main living area includes a fully equipped kitchen and a living/dining room. This convivial space is complemented by a games room, a veritable treasure trove of toys, where only the youngest children will be able to squeeze in... The entire cottage is heated by a recently installed pellet stove.

Through large skylights, you'll enjoy views of the Roche Rousse and Vierge du Vercors cliffs, the Herbouilly forest, and the outskirts of the village. For outdoor enthusiasts and active families, the surrounding possibilities are plentiful: hiking, with pack donkeys or on snowshoes, skiing, cycling, mountain biking, paragliding, caving, canyoning, climbing, fishing… Guilhem, the owner of the gîte, is an experienced climbing instructor, canyoning instructor, and mountain guide.
