White Draye Cave

A nature break in the heart of the Vercors — 4,7 million years of underground heritage, a welcoming restaurant and a terrace overlooking the forest

In 1918, Fabien Rey, a trapper from the plateau nicknamed "Marseille," lost his dog Fleury, who fell into a 16-meter natural chasm. While rescuing him, he discovered an immense cavity adorned with thousands of concretions: the Draye Blanche, dormant there for 4,7 million years.

Developed in 1970 and then made accessible to all by a tunnel bored in 1990, the cave now reveals a chamber of 100 meters by 30, translucent draperies, stalactites… and an exceptional fossiliferous shaft: more than 15,000 bones of 45 species — bison, cave bears, wolves and eagles.
