Description

A rolling and very varied route with alternating single track and undergrowth paths. It crosses the Vassieux plateau from east to west, passing through the Trompe forest, the Serre Charbonnière woods and the Libouse valley.

The first part leads to the Museum of Prehistory, which houses a flint knapping workshop found intact, as it was 5000 years ago! The route alternates between single tracks, paths, and a few short sections of road, crossing the Vassieux plateau from west to east. A steep, but short, climb on a track takes you to the "Raphaël Poirée" biathlon stadium. You then dive into the Trompe forest via a pleasant track, dotted with small steep slopes and beautiful clearings, up to the Pas du Souillet. At Fouletier, the track descends to the causse; along the way, you will notice the ruins of the windmills and the small Saint Mamert chapel.

Step-by-step itinerary

From Vassieux en Vercors (alt. 1050m) Cross the village and, at Chenaux (alt. 1055m) , take the path on the left leading to Cerisiers (alt. 1115m).

Continue until you reach the road again. At the crossroads, turn right then left at the fork. Follow the path to the right. At the top, turn left to reach Serbière (alt. 1154m).

Turn right across the plateau. Pass Dorne (alt. 1137m) then turn right at Cantine (alt. 1107m) . Go up into a wood, cross the road and reach Balenne (alt. 1180m).

Proceed to the Biathlon stadium. Cross the Trompe forest and clearings to reach the Pas du Pré (alt. 1186m).

Follow the path to the right. Go up the forest track due north to Fouletier (alt. 1100m).

On the right, pass in front of a building. Go up the track to reach Pierre Blanc ( 1137m altitude ) . It's possible to shorten the route by turning left to reach point 9.

Turn left into the woods. The sometimes technical descent leads to Serre Charbonnière (alt. 1165m).

Take the path on the left. The technical and steep descent leads to Combe Libouse (alt. 990m).

Ascend the valley with its technical sections (landscapes and viewpoints). Reach Font l'Etrat (alt. 1040m).

Continue straight ahead to reach the Sapin d'Aimé (alt. 1063m).

Turn right. Viewpoint overlooking the plateau. Continue to La Mure (alt. 1060m).

Take the path to the left towards Vassieux. Cross the road and, at La Grande Peyrouse (alt. 1053m) , turn right to reach La Nécropole (alt. 1065m).

Take the path on the left that leads back to the village to return to the starting point.
